EUDR deadlines 2026/2027: a timeline for coffee importers
The EUDR (Reg. EU 2023/1115, amended by Reg. EU 2025/2650) does not apply to all companies at once. The Commission set a phased calendar by operator size. This page summarises the dates that matter to a coffee SME and what you should already be doing.
Dates may change. Always verify the current version on the European Commission's official portal.
Phased application
- Large and medium operators (more than 250 employees and €50M turnover): 30 December 2026.
- Micro and small enterprises (fewer than 50 employees and €10M) and natural-person operators: 30 June 2027.
The idea behind the extension is to give small companies time to set up supplier geolocation, which is the slowest part.
The slowest part: geolocation
The bottleneck is not filling in a form. It is getting your suppliers to capture the coordinates of their farms. If you work with 20 cooperatives and 200 producers, that process can take weeks.
So even with time on the clock, you should start now:
- Set up your company.
- Invite your main suppliers with a magic link.
- Get plots captured and validated.
When your application date arrives, you will only need screening, risk and the pack.
Urgency checklist
- [ ] Company set up (name, country, EORI).
- [ ] Suppliers registered with country of origin.
- [ ] Capture links sent to main suppliers.
- [ ] At least one plot captured and validated.
- [ ] Satellite screening run on a test plot.
Conclusion
The extended deadline is breathing room, not an invitation to wait. Companies that leave geolocation to the last month will be late for TRACES. Start today with EUDR-Comply.
