Definitive EUDR guide for timber importers

The EUDR (Reg. EU 2023/1115) applies to timber and all its derivatives: boards, furniture, paper, cardboard and manufactured wood products. If you import timber or wood products into the EU, you must prove the product comes from plots deforestation-free after 31 December 2020.

1. What EUDR covers for timber

EUDR covers raw timber (HS 4407.00), boards, furniture, paper, cardboard and manufactured wood products. The key difference from EUTR (the previous EU Timber Regulation) is that EUDR requires plot-level geolocation.

2. Geolocation of forest concessions

Each concession or plot of origin must be geolocated with a 6-decimal GeoJSON polygon. For paper or cardboard products, you need to trace back to the original plantation or forest concession.

3. Satellite screening

Satellite screening verifies whether the plot had forest cover at the cut-off date (31 Dec 2020). If the plot was deforested after that date, the product does not comply with EUDR.

4. Risk assessment

Key factors: country of origin (Brazil, Indonesia, Congo are high-risk zones), chain complexity (log → board → furniture → paper) and mixed lots.

5. DDS dossier and TRACES

The dossier includes operator, product, geolocation, statements and risk assessment. It is submitted to the EU EUDR Information System.

EUDR-Comply manages the full timber flow, from forest concession to a TRACES-ready pack.

EUDR-Comply builds a due diligence dossier, runs an automated deforestation screening (decision support, not automatic legal conformity) and produces a TRACES-ready pack. Official submission to the EU Information System is the operator's responsibility. Deforestation cut-off reference: 31 Dec 2020. Retain evidence for 5 years.
