Definitive EUDR guide for cattle importers

The EUDR (Reg. EU 2023/1115) applies to cattle and its derivatives: beef (HS 0201.00), leather and gelatin. If you import cattle products into the EU, you must prove the farm of origin is deforestation-free after 31 December 2020.

1. What EUDR covers for cattle

EUDR covers beef, leather and gelatin, as well as derived products. The main risk zone is Brazil (Amazon and Cerrado), where cattle expansion is linked to deforestation.

2. Geolocation of cattle farms

Each cattle farm must be geolocated with a 6-decimal GeoJSON polygon. For mixed lots (multiple farms), you need coordinates for each one.

3. Satellite screening

Satellite screening verifies whether the farm had forest cover at the cut-off date (31 Dec 2020). If the farm was deforested after that, the product does not comply with EUDR.

4. Risk assessment

Key factors: country of origin (Brazil is high-risk), product type (beef vs leather vs gelatin) and chain complexity.

5. DDS dossier and TRACES

The dossier includes operator, product, geolocation, statements and risk assessment.

EUDR-Comply manages the full cattle flow, from farm to a TRACES-ready pack.

EUDR-Comply builds a due diligence dossier, runs an automated deforestation screening (decision support, not automatic legal conformity) and produces a TRACES-ready pack. Official submission to the EU Information System is the operator's responsibility. Deforestation cut-off reference: 31 Dec 2020. Retain evidence for 5 years.
